Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble – Our Dogs Review

If there was ever anything in the Canine world to cause confusion then it would have to be raw feeding!

Where do I start? Should I feed my dog completely Raw? Is Raw the same as BARF?

Ultimately raw feeding, or BARF (Bones and Raw Food) is quite simply feeding your dog real, natural, unprocessed food.

Feeding a complete and nutritious home-made raw food diet can be very time-consuming.

It can also be very dangerous for your dogs health if you don’t get the freshest of meats and other ingredients.

This is why I have chosen Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble to review today.

Stella and Chewy’s Raw takes the guess work away to provide you and your dog with the perfect nutritional balance.

What Is Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble?

Dogs will always naturally have a craving for meat, lets remember this is what they ate when they were in the wild and it has been passed on through generations to our domesticated dogs.

Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble is packed with the highest quality animal based proteins from a range of different animal meat sources.

Add to this a coating of freeze-dried raw over the kibble, and freeze-dried raw nuggets and you have a complete, protein rich, nutritional and balanced meal.

At Stella and Chewy’s they truly believe that selecting the best pet food is one of the most important decisions a pet parent can make!

Marie Moody who started Stella and Chewy’s way back in 1997 still plays a very active role in the company today and you are welcome to read a little more about her in an article I wrote, What Is Stella And Chewy’s Dog Food and How Did They Start?

Stella and Chewy’s Nutritional Value.

The overall nutritional value that Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble recipes offer varies considerably depending on the type of dog you own.

Just as an example, their freeze-dried recipes offer awesome nutritional value that is very high in proteins and fats.

The product we are reviewing here is a kibble recipe and also gives your dog nutrition that is above the average but not quite as good as the freeze-dried.

If you would like to read more about the freeze-dried option, check out our Freeze Dried Review.

Below is a calorie breakdown on the nutritional value of the Stella and Chewy’s kibble recipe.

You can see by this that the proportion of fat and protein is over the 60% ratio and would be more than sufficient for most dogs, especially to those who are more active.

With the nutritional value this product offers it helps support whole body health with exactly the right quantities of vitamins, minerals, and amino acids and includes probiotics for a healthy digestive system and taurine for a healthy heart.

What People are Asking About

Is Stella and Chewy’s Good For My Dog?

This is definitely good eating. My dog goes crazy for the patties in almost every flavour. I’ve hit on a few bags with some poor quality control over the years, but Stella & Chewy’s always pulls through when I let them know. They seem to be a great company that’s actually focused on their four-legged customers.

Is Stella and Chewy healthy for dogs?

Yes!Stella & Chewy’s dinners for dogs are designed to be complete and balanced for all life stages this means they’re great for puppies, too! They do meet AAFCO standards for complete and balanced nutrition across all life stages.

Do Vets Recommend this product?

Stella & Chewy’s products are formulated by an animal nutritionist and reviewed by a veterinarian to assure they meet appropriate AAFCO guidelines for complete and balanced nutrition.

Is This Product Worth It?

If you’re keen on changing your pup over to a raw diet, Stella and Chewy’s is a great place to start. High quality, easy to digest, and with a great story, your pup can only benefit from the care that goes into making this food.

How Hard Is This Compared to Normal Kibble?

The Raw Blend Wild Red is primarily a kibble product, though it includes pieces of freeze-dried raw for an added boost of raw taste and nutrition. The kibble texture is relatively similar to other kibbles, but the freeze-dried pieces are softer.

Can You Soak In Water First For Older Dogs Who Have Lost Teeth?

Yes, you can absolutely soak this in cool or warm water prior to feeding. Once that water is added, the food should be consumed within 2 hours. Anything left after that time should be discarded.

What Are Customers Saying About Wild Red Raw Kibble?

5.0 out of 5 stars Dogs Adore It

My dogs adore this food.

High energy fillers and carbs slow them down. This is a blend of meat including organs and muscles with some fruit and veggies.

The bulk of the kibble is small with larger freeze-dried chunks. It is low odor and judging by the dog’s enthusiasm must taste great.

Neither my German shepherds nor my small Chinese crested dogs had difficulty with it. It seems to agree with them and I observed no negative side effects.

The bag is resealable. Only downside is the cost. It is expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Benefits, But Pieces Are Too Small and Just Too Costly

What I Like:

Wholesome Ingredients

No Fillers Or Grains

High Protein

Supports Overall Wellness

What I Don’t Like

Very Pricey For People With Big Pets

Not For Fast Eating Dogs or Large Dogs

Choking Hazard Sized Pieces

I’m always on the hunt for good food options for my dog. Not only does it give him variety, but better alternatives for whatever vitamins he needs.

Anyway there are clearly some things I loved immediately liked about this food. Not only is this packed with proteins from beef, pork, lamb, bison, venison and goat. Whole prey ingredients that use muscle meat, organ meat, and cartilage. But, this is also Poultry free and Grain free with no potatoes or legumes. No peas, lentils, by-product meals, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives added for the cleanest of dog foods compared to Blue Buffalo in my opinion.

Not to mention, each piece has freeze-dried raw coating for freshness. Last but not least, it’s FULL of great vitamins and probiotics for skin, coat, overall digestive heart health and wellness. So, this has some very agreeable ingredients even for the most sensitive stomach of dogs.

So, clearly from the buyer’s perspective, this scream PREMIUM DOG FOOD. Anything for my protein loving pit bull mix. BUT, there are certain cautions to this product I don’t like already though.

He eats almost anything and is not picky. So, he had no problem eating this. The problem is with the super small pieces. Like most aggressive breeds, my dog tends to eat fast, even with a slow feeder bowl he chokes now and then on kibble. This made him choke MULTIPLE TIMES WITH JUST 2 CUPS. These pieces are just too small. It doesn’t help that he has a wide mouth and can’t process smaller food well, but this is major choking hazard for fast eating dogs or even big dogs in general that can’t catch such tiny pieces.

Secondly, the amount of food and pricing for it just doesn’t make any sense. I always tend to buy food under $50 period. Because not only do I have multiple pets, but even buying it once or twice a month compared to every week saves money. Just almost 4 pounds is $26 and 21 pounds is almost $90 DOLLARS! That is a bit ridiculous compared to brands Purina, Iams , and Pedigree. Those that save you money when having to buy multiple pounds all under $50 for over 40 or more pounds. Even a 21 pound bad wouldn’t last my dog 2 weeks when he eats multiple times a day. The volume in the bag makes you use more just to get a proper serving, but frankly you get less for the price given. There’s just no deal with this.

So, this is great if you have the funds. But, realistically this would be great as a food topper and or a treat to switch up now and then. But, even though my dog likes it, I can’t see myself switching to something that may cost me over $200 a month. Premium or not????????

PS: No matter the nature, I only write unbiased, authentic, and honest reviews. Thanks for reading ????

5.0 out of 5 stars So Much Meat and Textures

This food has been my dog’s favorite so far because it has the different textures of food and so many different meat flavors.

There are no fillers and it is packed with good stuff to keep your dog healthy.

Not sure on price of this as it went out of stock but I’d pay for a reasonable price.

Definitely check out the weight and cup suggestion as it pertains to your dog but seems typical if not even a little fewer cups per weight which is nice.

My Verdict On Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble

If you take the price out of the equation this is a very good, high quality raw kibble food.

Whether you choose to make your own raw food at home, with raw meaty bones mixed with fresh fruit and vegetables, or you decide to take all the hassle and prep out and go for the Wild Red or other freeze-dried raw range Stella & Chewy have you are essentially feeding your dog the same nutritional diet to your four legged friend.

You can think of it like this.

You are either going down the shops to get all the ingredients to make your favorite pizza or you head out to the local Italian restaurant to sample theirs.

The bottom line is real food is real food.

  1. I have always wondered if serving my dogs food that is completely raw would be helpful or cause them problems. And I have been learning that if done right, it can be beneficial. So I would like to experiment with raw meat. But I am not sure I can find really fresh meat. So wild red raw kibble is a safe way to get started.

  2. Just the other day, I was discussing with my friends about dog food.

We remembered our parents feeding dogs and cats only food what people ate, there was no dog food on the market.

I must say, dogs are healthier, more energetic and have a longer life span with food special made for them.

We people want to eat healthy to feel good, so why not the same for dogs?

  4. Hi Mark. Thank you for another great post. In past I was feeding my dog with raw meat, and also he often received some proceeded food from us. But it wasn’t good for him and now I was looking for something healthier and balanced. Looking on your post it seems that Stella is what I was looking for. Its natural, comes in different flavors and price is reasonable. Looking forward to test it and I hope my dog will enjoy his new meals.

  5. Thank you for sharing your article. I have three terriers at home who have allergies. I search for the best dog food to reduce their allergy risks due to wheat and certain ingredients. Would you recommend this product to senior medium size dogs? I appreciate your feedback. Even so, I value providing our dogs with quality, protein unprocessed food sources.

    • Hi John,

My Labrador is 12 years old and had suffered from allergies and since being on Stella and Chewy’s dog food has never had an issue since, and her coat is also amazing.

You might also find a review I did on Yumwoof perfect kibble worth looking at as another option.

Hope this helps and please let me know how you get on with either of these products.

  6. It’s good to know that there is quality food out there for your dog, as doing the fresh and homemade thing is very time-consuming and who knows if we are even getting the formula right. I like that you can also soak the food to make it softer if your dog’s teeth are not what they used to be.

Would you suggest a pellets only diet for a dog if it is a good quality one or must they have other food sources?

    • Hi Michel,

This is what I love about the Stella and Chewy’s range in that you don’t really need to add anything else to their meals as they are getting everything they need from the ingredients in this food.

      Hope this helps.

  7. Quality food is a must for your furry friend.

Stella and Chewy’s Wild Red Raw Kibble is a great place to start for anyone looking to switch their dog over to a raw diet. There are others out there, but most of the time the price is even higher.

It’s hard to find a premium dog food at an affordable price, but this is the one!

    Thanks for the article, Mark!
