Royal CBD for Dogs Review

A quick search of the internet and you will soon see the many uses and benefits of Royal CDB oil.

From doctors, scientists, and vets, all are now discovering the many uses CDB oil has for us humans.

However, did you know CBD oil can also help treat many different conditions in your dog?

In this Royal CBD For Dogs Review we will look at some specific conditions it can treat and two of the best products Royal currently have on the market.

We will also look at some most asked questions from dog owners with regard to treating stress and anxiety in their dogs, which I have also covered in a previous article, The Benefits of CBD oil in Dogs with Stress.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD is the short-term word for cannabidiol and it is a compound that is found in cannabis/marijuana plants.

It has over the years been known for its benefits for humans to relieve pain, anxiety, and a lot more, but how about using it on our dogs?

CBD Oil Is Not Marijuana

Let’s clarify one thing before we get onto our review today.

You should NEVER give your dogs any kind of product that contains high amounts of THC, since it is highly toxic for them, which is why CBD oil is safe to use on your dogs as the oil is an extract from the marijuana plant and does not contain any THC, which is the compound which gets us high!

Marijuana plants grown indoorsAccording to Wikipedia, THC, is the marijuana plant’s primary component for causing psychoactive effects. THC was first discovered and isolated by Bulgarian-born chemist Raphael Mechoulam in Israel in 1964. It was found that, when smoked, tetrahydrocannabinol is absorbed into the bloodstream and travels to the brain, attaching itself to the naturally occurring endocannabinoid receptors located in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and basal ganglia. These are the parts of the brain responsible for thinking, memory, pleasure, coordination, and movement.

Stress Relief

Dogs are no different to humans.

They can experience the nasty effects of stress and it is usually in the form of anxiety, especially if you are away at work all day or taken off for the weekend and left them with someone else.

So, if your dog suffers from separation related stress or anxiety or doesn’t cope well with other types of stressful situations like thunderstorms, loud noises, or unfamiliar situations then Royal CBD for dogs could be just want the doctor ordered to help them fell calm and relaxed again!

Royal CBD for Faster Recovery

CBD oil tackles the dog’s receptors that are used to regulate pain and inflammation.

Royal CBD for dogs helps to drastically alleviate suffering, reduce pain, and promote a faster recovery that could be associated with an injury or post operation.

Helps to Fight Inflammation

Inflammation is a process that the body uses to heal itself after an injury, and it is no different for a dog.

Sometimes though the inflammatory process can go a little off the rails and this is when it can lead to long term health concerns and a reduced quality of life (Just ask any arthritis sufferer as this is a form of joint inflammation)

By giving your dog CBD oil it may help in reducing inflammation and manage things like allergies, skin irritations, digestive issues, and lots more!

Energy Boost for Older Dogs

We all know as you get older our energy levels drop, along with other parts of our body that I won’t mention in this article LOL! But that doesn’t mean we can’t age gracefully and with our dignity still intact!

Old dog laying on a rugJust like us humans, as dogs get older their energy levels drop and their motivation for walks and playtime are not the same.

Sometimes this can be the result of other health issues which are affecting them.

Due to the wide action of CBD oil, this could be exactly what your dog needs to get back some of that young exuberance they once had back into their life!

Sleep Support – I Thought That’s All Dogs Did Was Sleep!

How can my dog need sleep support when the average dog sleeps for between 12 and 14 hours per day?

Does the following sound familiar? Regardless of all the effort your dog is not being the most attentive dog in the world, and this alone can cause many different behavioral issues.

It has been well researched that some dogs can suffer from what is called “racing thoughts” and this simply put is where they struggle to focus on certain activities for a longer time.

This can be especially frustrating when it comes to training!

This is one of the great benefits Royal CBD for dogs has as it dramatically reduces any stress build-up and greatly improves your dogs focus to ensure that training will be a time when they are switched on and ready to please.

Older Dogs, Older People and Healthy Joints – Yes Please!

Hands up if this sounds like you.

Do you wake up stiff and uncomfortable? Do you constantly wake up through the night with sore and aching joints?

Well, your dog goes through the same feeling as they get older, and this ultimately leads to reduced mobility and a poorer quality of life.

CBD oil is extremely popular amongst dog owners whose best buddies don’t feel as young and mobile as they used to. Sounds a lot like me!

Royal CBD oil and hemp products are used by pet owners worldwide to give some relief to our beloved dogs to put a little spring back in those old legs and soothe those aching joints.

Be careful though you may just have your puppy back!

CBD Oil or Hemp Chews?

Both of these products from Royal offer the same benefits to your beloved dog.

They both come in delicious flavors your dog will love which are chicken, bacon, or beef and both are lab tested for quality assurance.

So Let’s take a look at these two products.

CBD Hemp Chews

We have gummies, so why not give your dog a healthy treat to support their quality of life, and what better than Royal’s CBD Dog Treats

These hemp chews are available in three seperate formulas and each one is designed for a specific health focus.

  • Calming Treats – For Stress and Anxiety.
  • Hearty Treats – For Heart and Immune Health
  • Active Treats – For Joint and Muscle Health

Serving Size & Dosage Recommendations Directly from Royal

Each treat contains 5 mg of CBD.

The optimal dose of CBD for your pet depends on their size, age, and health status.

Every dog is different, so it’s best to start with a low dose and increase gradually over time. Observe any changes in their symptoms. When symptoms improve, you know you’re using the right dose. If your dog becomes overly lethargic, reduce the dose slightly.

Most small dogs (under 30 lbs) do well with 1–2 treats.

Larger dogs (over 30 lbs) may require 2 or 3 treats to get the desired results.

CBD Oil

For those of us that have seen, or should I say felt the benefits of using CBD oil will understand that our dogs should be able to benefit just as much as us.

Royals CBD oil provides your dog with the full spectrum of active health promoting cannabinoids just like that in our humans CBD oil along with heaps of hemp extracted terpenes.

Royal CBD Oil

The CBD oil comes in three different levels of potency so it won’t matter if you own a Chihuahua or a Great Dane Royal have your dog covered.

All the oils come in a bacon flavour and let’s face it; what dog doesn’t like bacon?

How Much CBD Oil Should I Give My Dog – Recommended Directly from Royal

The amount of CBD oil for your dog depends on its size, age, and the potency of the oil you purchase.

Every dog is different, so the best way to find the optimal dose is to start low and increase the dose gradually day by day until you see improvement in your dog’s symptoms.

Here are some general recommendations of the approximate dose ranges you can expect depending on your dog’s weight:

  • Small dogs (under 30 lbs) — 5–10 mg CBD
  • Medium-sized dogs (30–60 lbs) — 10-20 mg CBD
  • Large dogs (over 60 lbs) — 20–50 mg CBD

To find the amount of oil you should use, consider the amount of CBD in each serving of oil.

A serving is one full dropper of oil (equal to 1 ml of oil):

  • 250 mg CBD oil — 8 mg per serving (0.30 mg per drop)
  • 500 mg CBD oil — 17 mg per serving (0.50 mg per drop)

Are There Side Effects When Giving CBD Oil or Hemp Chews for Dogs?

CBD oil and Hemp Chews only have a few very mild side effects (If purchased from a reputable supplier) and Royal prides itself on a very high level of safety.

With that said there are some side effects to watch out for, especially if this is the first time you will be using CBD oil or Hemp Chews:

  • Dry Mouth (Your dog is drinking water more often than usual)
  • A Temporary Drop in Blood Pressure (Dizziness)
  • Lethargy – (Sleeping or taking a nap more often than usual)
  • Changes in Appetite – (increased or decreased)
  • Diarrhea or Constipation

Some Vets Love It

For anyone thinking this question, CBD oil and hemp chews are legal under the 2018 farm Bill, which includes pet products.

So, is it worth it?

My answer in short is a confounding yes, and even though it is still a new product within the dog space scientists and alternative medicine veterinarians are still discovering its endless different uses and benefits, and the current evidence they are providing is incredible.

With so many useless products being spruiked on the internet right now making unwarranted and unproven claims, CBD outshines them every time.

With so many benefits and the availability CBD oil, in my opinion is definitely worth trying on your dog, even if it’s only once!

White dog having CBD oil from a dropperYes, this is a great product, however not all dogs will like it or even react to it in the same way as other dogs.

You might find that your trusty pal can tolerate it, and, in this case, you should immediately remove it from their diet or try giving it to them in a different way (Generally from experience I have found that with the oil it is better putting it in their mouth directly rather than with their food).

And Some Vets Don’t Love It!

Some vets are still having issues with this product, especially those that practice only traditional western medicine so you may find it hard to get any real information from them.

When I first looked at this for my dogs and my client’s dogs some vets, I spoke to were dead against it since it is still new to the market and in my opinion were misinformed or ignorant to the countless success stories.

Regardless, I always recommend speaking to several vets before trying any new product and in the case of CBD products try finding vets that practice both western and natural medicines as these vets will give you a well-researched and open-minded opinion.

Let’s Finish Up on A High Note (Excuse the Pun)

OK, in closing my question to you is Will you try CBD Oil or Hemp Chews with your dog?

  1. Thank you for providing so much great information in this post!

You mention that CBD “tackles the dog’s receptors that are used to regulate pain and inflammation” but what receptors are these exactly? And how does CBD interact with the receptors in a canine’s body to reduce inflammation and pain?

I would love to see more of the science behind CBD being used with dogs.

    • Hi Kathryn,

Great question and without sounding to scientific, scientists, while doing no real formal studies on how CBD oils can affect dogs, do know that the cannabinoids (CBD) interacts with the endocannabinoid receptors that are located within the central and peripheral nervous system. By doing this it helps not only us, but also our dogs in maintaining a healthy balance in the body and keep it in a good healthy state.

I hope this has answered your question?

  2. I have talked to a couple of vets. They are usually misinformed about CBD. They are so saturated with traditional western medicine that they think it’s the only way to deal with health issues. So, although I have heard so many of the success stories (I don’t feel I’m misinformed), I still hesitate because vets hooked me on the point that we need to give CBD time.

    • Yes, unfortunately a lot of western vets are very stuck in their ways.

My dogs vet practices both western and alternative so I was able to get a very good understanding of the benefits from an open minded opinion

I do understand some peoples hesitation though, as we usually think that our vet knows best.

  3. Thank you for the article, this is a new knowledge for me. I’ve known for a while that CBD oil is useful for humans, even though it’s (maybe) illegal in my country. I really want to try one for my puppy, though 🙁 Is there any other alternative for CBD dog gummies that may give a similar effects and benefits to our little friend?

  4. Hey thanks for this information!

    so THC is the addictive substance, interesting! That’s a great discovery;

Anyways I just recently learnt CBD has quite a lot of benefits to us humans and then I saw dogs too! Wow that’s great! I definitely need to take note of quite a few info from here so when I do get a fluff ball I can make sure it ages gracefully and live the best possible life!

  5. Okay so it is not an illegal drug. I was worried that it is an illegal drug seeing that it’s made from Marijuana. I don’t have dogs yet but I’m thinking of getting one. If my dog ever experiences pain, I will one hundred percent purchase this product. Thank you for such an informative article.

  6. This sounds like a great product for our lovely pooches Mark. I tend to agree with you that vets will be cautious at first about using something so new and I can see where they are coming from but it looks to have benefits for so many problems.

I will be contacting several vets to ask their thoughts as my dog suffers from separation anxiety and it would be great to be able to treat him at home myself. Are there any brands that you would recommend at this stage?

    • Hi Lily,

I have only ever used the Royal brand as it was one recommended to me by my Vet.

If you are looking into some other brands I would be more than happy to do the research for you and also discuss with my Vet as he is a strong believer in both western and alternative medicine/treatment programs.

  7. Hey Mark!

Chad here from Groomydude. Hope you and Saffron are doing well! Just checkin’ back in to see what great information you are having on your site today.

I have kept CBD oil on hand for our dogs for a while now. It was actually suggested by our vet. Cooper has some serious separation anxiety. When we take him on vacation with us we either have to take him everywhere or suffer the consequences.

I have found that with the right dosage of CBD he handles this much better. It doesn’t make him loopy or “stoned” for a term that people would relate to. It just makes it easier for him to tolerate missing his pup pop so much.

Good read mister, I enjoyed it! Super informative too!

    Talk to you guys soon!

    • Hey Chad,

Thanks for your comments and Saffron, Narla (My Black Lab) are all doing well.

I think the CBD oil is very underrated, mainly due to some vets ignorance on what it can do. You like me have been lucky enough to find vets that are open to alternative treatments, which is great for our dogs.

Hope all is well with you and your furry family mate.

      Mark, Narla and Saffron.

  8. Hi mark – my dog is 18 months old (ridgeback x) and gets very anxious when people arrive at our house – she is definately not aggressive but will bark and try and hide. Do you think this oil will benefit her ? Thankyou again got your articles, we love them as a family raising dogs.

    • Hi Nicky,

Most definitely it will, it is what my vet recommended and I have been giving it to Saffron for about 3 months now and she is a totally different dog.

I am still playing with the dosage but overall I am so happy with the difference so far.

If you do decide to try this make sure you go with the Royal brand as mentioned in this article as this was what my vet recommended.
