Educator E Collar – Remote Dog Training Collar

The remote dog training collar or electronic collars are not new. Trainers have been using them for a long time and even dogs are now used to the models of e-training collars. E Collars, when first manufactured, did not have variety in the stimulation setting and were not considered suitable for dogs. But with the new invention, the usefulness of e-collars as a training tool could not be denied.

When talking about remote dog training collars, a name that came to mind due to its humane technology and durability is Educator E-collars. With the help of these collars, we can monitor where our dogs are, if they move towards any point, if they run, etc. Not only can we follow them for miles, but we can also influence them. We can say that e-training collars are distance training tools. Here we will discuss all the aspects related to the e-training collar or remote training collar.

Why Use An Educator E-Collar?

When we train our dog, your motivation behind the training is always to modify and change the unwanted behaviors of the dogs.

In addition, dogs will also learn to cooperate with their owners. During training, we set expectations and communicate with them so that they understand, and if not, we can correct their behavior.

For example, when your furry friend is wearing a leash, he will respond every time you call him.

However, when he is not on the lead, the response can be different.

So, if you do not know how to reinforce the command when your dog is not on lead, they will soon start to ignore you.

If you ask a dog more than once and you don’t have anything to enforce your command, your dog will soon obey at his own convenience.

Educator e-collars play an important role in giving you the ability to communicate with your dog and save them from any deadly situations.

In common training methods, dogs are often overly touched, overly talked about, and overly excited by trainers.

But these remote collars help you and the dog to stay calmer and learn the correct behaviors.

Here is the percentage
of some common behavior problems in the surveyed population.

Behavioral Issues In Dogs% Currently Displayed In The Respondent Population
Excitement in few situations82.1%
Aggression toward people33.0%
Barking at people75.7%
Fear in few situations60.2%
Nipping at dogs13.8%
Barking at Dogs52.7%
Eating non-food stuff16.5%
Separation related behavior15.6%
Growling42.4%
Repetitive behaviors9.8%

With the help of the e-collars, you can also correct these unwanted behaviors. However, adjusting your dog to the collar will take time, and the process is known as collar conditioning.

How to Train Your Dog With an Educator E-Collar?

An important aspect to keep in mind is that your dog must know the basic obedience commands before starting the collar conditioning since it will help you a lot in remote training.

The first step in collar conditioning is that the training collar is always worn at the beginning of the day and routine.

At first, you should associate the collar with playing, walking, and other activities, and soon they will take it as part of their daily life.

They can also be used as a replacement for regular collars, as they can be tagged with name, your contact information, and other important information.

The training collar often remains off and should be used only in situations where we must enforce a command.

To use the Training Collar, you must first select the stimulation level.

There are different levels in each remote collar.

The level of stimulation starts from a minimum level and goes to the maximum.

You have to adjust the feel of the collar to a level where your dog easily understands it as part of communication.

During training, the sensational level can be set higher than usual.

For the collar to function at its best, the contact point of the collar must touch the skin.

For long-haired dogs, use the collar with long contact points. However, it should not be so tight as it can cause muscle tension.

You can adjust the stimulation level by sitting your puppy in front of you and increase the stimulation level from low to high.

The level of stimulation is best when your dog is annoyed/uncomfortable with the feeling.

Keep in mind that you are not looking for a pain response; instead, you need a feeling of confusion.

By increasing the level of stimulation, if he tucks his tail between his legs or lowers his ears, it means that the level of sensation is too high.

According to canine anatomy, dogs have more muscles and nerve tissues in the neck compared to humans.

However, their reaction to pain is very different from that of humans.

Dogs are also masters at hiding pain so that they don’t become prey to any other animal, so if your pup shows signs of pain, it means that he is uncomfortable.

How To Train Commands With The Help Of An E-Collar?

The basic concept of collar conditioning is that your dog must understand that the discomfort caused by the collar will disappear when he obeys your commands.

The best command that your dog should master is “come.” But as mentioned above, your dog should already know this command.

Put on the collar and give your dog the command to “sit.” If he knows the command, he will obey and sit immediately.

If he does not obey your commands, take a step back from training because it is your negligence that your dog has not learned the commands correctly.

When your dog knows the commands and won’t obey you, the Educator E training collar can help you.

Take 10-20 steps back from your dog.

Encourage your dog with the help of the e-collar and give the command “come” with full enthusiasm.

Take a check cord and gently guide them towards you and once they are close to you, release the button on the e-collar.

Now is the time to praise your dog and give him a treat. This will help your dog understand that you like this behavior.

The goal with remote collar training is ultimately to turn off the annoyance, and your dog should obey you without it.

As a trainer, you have to repeat this process over and over again and do this process in different locations.

Once you practice this command in the backyard, move to the most distracting area, like a park. As a trainer and pet parent, learn to tackle different situations.

Are Remote Dog Training Collars’ Shock Collars’?

One of the most common and relevant questions all pet owners ask is whether these remote training collars are shock collars.

The answer is no, they are not, and you can even test them by holding them in your hand and pressing the stimulation button. You will see that at level one, the sensation hardly feels to your hand.

However, human hands contain many nerve endings.

So the stimulation that occurs with the training collar is only to annoy the dog and not give them a shock.

You can compare the sensation to that of an insect crawling on your hand.

Are There Advantages To E-Collar Training?

If used correctly, the answer is most definitely Yes!

An electronic training collar is a valuable tool because it helps you enforce your commands even from a distance.

It also gives your furry companion the benefits of lead-free running and, at the same time, gives you total control to stop your dog in any dangerous situation.

The remote collar also ensures good communication and regular feedback even if your dog is away from you.

These collars also reduce stress between trainers and dogs. As a result, training goals are easily achieved.

When training collars are not worn correctly, they will give adverse results.

Some trainers and handlers sometimes increase the stimulation level so high that it exceeds your dog’s threshold. Please don’t do that to your dog as it is inhumane.

When your dog does not respond to your command, it means he has not learned the commands correctly or has some other problem.

Likewise, if you’re having a bad day, don’t train your dog; instead, get some rest and train your dog another time.

  1. Hi Mark, I have not used an e collar for training any of our dogs yet, so thank you for this informative post on using them correctly. I was also under the impression that an e collar would administer a shock to the dog, so thank you for clarifying that there is a difference between a shock collar and an e collar for training.

Next time I get a puppy I will certainly be looking at getting an e collar as it does seem to make it much easier to train your puppy.

    • Hi Line,

You are not alone in thinking that the E-collars actually produce an electric shock and I am glad this post has helped clarify that for you.

I have used E-collars a lot in my work and have found them a great positive re-enforcement tool when used correctly.

  2. Good day Mark,

I have really enjoyed reading this post and I am happy to know more about how to train my dog with an Educator E-collar. It’s fascinating that the remote collar also ensures good communication and regular feedback even if my dog is away from me.

This is detailed and very interesting. Well, I have noted also that if these collars reduce stress between trainers and dogs, this is  awesome.

Thanks for sharing this important information.

  3. Thank you for sharing another informative article! I was worried when I first read the title that you were talking about shock collars but after reading I was pleasantly surprised by how safe and humane the educator E-collar’s sound. I will be recommending them as an alternative to the shock collar for any friends or family who are thinking about buying a shock collar to help with training their dogs to not bark, be as aggressive, or jump on guests etc.

    • Hi Rachel,

Its funny the amount of people that think E-collar training is the same as shock collar training.

The E-collar is by far the safest and most humane training aide available on the market in my opinion.

      Thanks for reading.

  4. Hi and thanks for this informative post. I was aware of these kinds of collars but for what I thought was a more common application, the fenceless electronic dog enclosure. I have to say that my spontaneous and I am sure uninformed reaction to these electronic fences is that they must be inhumane, at least partially. That does lead me to my question though. Do you set the discomfort level to be the same for the Educator e Collar as you would for an electric fence? Or does the electric fence collar need to give more of a jolt? Thanks, Andy

    • Hi Andy,

Electric shock collars and E-collars are both completely different in the way they work.

An E-collar gives no shock or jolt to the dog, or any kind of discomfort, it is more like an annoying feeling, much like you being tickled which gets their attention to your command.

  5. I have arrived to the conclusion that an e-collar is the best for my dog. I have been wanting to train him but we hadn’t researched into it deeply. Now that I have done my research I am eager to get started. And excited too. I will buy my e-collar and start training commands. Thanks for this post.

  6. I remember owning my first dog a couple of years ago and was super excited about it, I didn’t have any knowledge about dogs and thought I didn’t require any since I thought dogs weren’t hard to maintain. After some time the dog becomes uncontrollable and did serious damages to the family. I never thought you could use a collar to train and tame a dog, your article is really helpful and could help save dog injuries from happening.

    • Hi Kenny,

As a dog trainer I have had a lot of success with the E-collar especially with reactive dogs.

I highly rate this collar as a humane way to train certain dogs.
