Earth Rated Biodegradable Doggie Poop Bags – Our Dogs Review

Earth Rated Biodegradable Doggie Poop Bags – Why I chose them and have never looked elsewhere!

#That Stinks #Earthrated

About two years back I bought myself an English Mastiff and as she grew so did the size of her poop. I went from digging small holes in the back yard with a shovel, to hiring an excavator just to bury her poop!

Well the excavator might be a slight over exaggeration but I am sure I have painted the picture.

As she was growing up I was either buying the regular plastic ones (Yes the type they use for landfill ARGHH) from the shop (Or using the plastic shopping bags themselves) or the earth friendly bags that would split with anything more than Chihuahua droppings.

After many months of spillages and me smelling like a plumber’s labourer I started to think there must be a better bag out there somewhere.

After many hours scouring the internet and many months choosing the wrong brand I finally came across Earth Rated Bio-degradable Doggie Poop Bags.

What Are Earth Rated Doggie Poop Bags?

Earth rated offer doggie parents two different options and both of these focus heavily on protecting our environment.

Both options are made with completely natural ingredients and end up dissolving in about a year.

They also meet the Eco standard so if you are really serious about preserving our great earth for the future generation then these are definitely must have!

Because these doggie poop bags are earth friendly they break down so much faster than normal bags due to another earth friendly additive.

Won’t Any Poop Bag Be OK?

A few years ago I would have agreed.

But with my children always coming home from school talking about what we can do to help the environment and having to pick up multiple large size poops every day the bag you choose starts to become a lot more important.

So I have listed a few things that I look for in a good doggie poop bag:

SIZE:

You want the bag to be big enough for even the largest of messes, I should know owning a giant breed of dog.

The last thing you want is their smelly gift over your hands and arms (Trust me I have been there and its not a pleasant thing!)

EARTH FREINDLY:

The thing with poop bags is that not all are created with the same goal as Earth Rated and that is to help protect the environment.

Although the amount of plastics we are putting into landfill is continually decreasing it is still vitally important for us, especially as dog owners to think of as many alternatives as we can.

Think about this figure for a minute, before heading out to buy your next roll of doggie poop bags.

According to The World Counts we use approximately 5 TRILLION plastic bags per year, that works out to be 160,000 every second and for anyone reading this blog, that’s 700 a year for you.

We can do better than that and it all starts with the Earth Rated Doggie Poop Bags and their make-up.

Some More Poop Help

Some Great Features of Earth Rated

COMPLETELY LEAK-PROOF – Yes that’s a big statement I know, especially if you have been buying the cheaper mass-produced brands.

But Earth Friendly insist they don’t mess around when it comes to poop, which is why they say their bags are 100% leak-proof and I would 1005 agree with them!

PACKAGING & ROLL CORES ALL MADE WITH RECYCLED MATERIAL – Earth Friendlies motto is reduce, re-use, and recycle! The 3 R’s never looked so good.

LAVENDER SCENTED – Doggie Poop smells like….. Well lest be honest Doggie Poop! With the lavender scented bags you can smell that beautiful spring flower smell rather than, you guessed it…POOP!

I know which smell I would prefer.

What Customers Are Saying About Biodegradable Doggie Poop Bags

5.0 out of 5 stars I gave five stars to a poop bag. Enough said.

I never imagined I’d grow up to write reviews of dog poop bags on the internet, yet here I am.

I guess when you spend as much time as I do standing outside waiting for your dog to poop while he smells the same spot for 20 minutes, you start to think about things.

First of all, I have a dog who has what I politely like to call “anxious tummy.”

Sometimes people scare him in my apartment hallway, and he accidentally goes right there on the steps. In this moment, it is SUPER CLUTCH to have an easy-to-open poop bag like this one at the ready.

And yes, I’ve noticed that a lot of poop bags are so hard to get open, which is not ideal when you’re trying to clean up an embarrassing mess before your cute neighbor who you saw on Tinder rounds the corner and steps in it and you’re publicly shamed because your dog can’t handle his bowels.

My dog also prefers the feeling of mulch underfoot as he relieves himself.

It’s really hard to pick up poop from mulch without also retrieving a bunch of mulch.

Wood chips and plastic bags typically don’t mix, but these bad boys (or should I say good boys?) are able to handle the mulch without ripping and tearing which is awesome in my book.

Lastly, I don’t typically like the smell of fake lavender, but these actually have a really nice scent that does a fairly good job of blocking scent.

Great for someone like me who is astonishingly lazy and will put it in my garbage can instead of walking the 500 feet to the nearest doggie waste station. (Don’t judge.) VERY IMPORTANT. (See earlier cute neighbor anecdote.)

Thank you for reading my dog poop bag review!

5.0 out of 5 stars Grab those feces with confidence!

Is it possible to love a dog poop bag? Heck yeah!

I’m a veterinarian and I have tried many brands of bags over the years but since I discovered the Earth Rated Dog Waste Bags I use no other.

I use the scented bags because on long walks it kind of disguises the smell of the feces (except those that are really potent), so you don’t smell like feces to any passerby.

I usually prefer unscented things because I have a sensitive nose and for those inclined, Earth Rated does offer non-scented bags.

The Earth Rated bags are also a bit longer than a few other brands though most are similar length. However, the bags are definitely heavier than many other brands and also have way better sealed seams as well as high quality separation perforations.

The central cylinder glides easily in every brand of bag holder I have. Lastly, a small but important detail…you know that small piece of tape that holds a new roll together?

Most brands use a tape that when you pull it off it puts a hole in the opposing part of the bag if you don’t very carefully remove it.

A hole at the top of a bag is no big deal but further down can lead to leakage.

The Earth Rated tape comes off real nice and my first bag isn’t destroyed.

Overall a very strong, well-made bag that has never let me down. It can hold any load big or small, firm or loose and will not leak or tear.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overrated for ease of opening

I have to admit a major disconnect between the rating on these and my experience with them.

First, the plus side:

Pros:

They are durable

They are inexpensive

They are made from recycled materials

The disconnect arrives rapidly the first time to go to open them.

Whereas products like the Doggy Do Good biodegradable bag almost fall open for you without effort, these consistently require a bit of fuss.

They are not the worst I’ve run into by any means, but definitely not in the “easy” category.

They consistently require me to either wet my fingers before rubbing the edges to separate them, or to blow hard against the edge (a pain in what is currently a mask wearing society). The general Cons list:

Cons:

Bit of a challenge to open

Less pliable than some other bags (a bit of a natural consequence of their durability).

Overall, they are not a bad choice if looking for a budget bag, but we’ll go back to something that is easier to open when dealing with multiple dogs. 🙂

The Pros & Cons From My Experience

PROS:

  • Completely Leak Proof.
  • Can Be Paired With a Dispenser.
  • Extra Strong
  • Cheap To Buy
  • Scented or Unscented.
  • 100% Plastic Free.

CONS:

  • Harder Than Some Other Bags To Open
  • Some Discussion On Their Bio-Degradability.

Earth Rated Doggie Poop Bags – My Honest Opinion

I have used these bags for a long time now and they really are a good, strong, nice scented poop bag.

I will be honest they definitely are not the only good Doggie Poop bag on the market and if you are solely looking for something that has all the things Earth Rated have but absolutely must be 100% bio-degradable then this probably isn’t the best choice.

Although Earth Rated have cleverly marketed these as Bio-degradable, it is really only the packaging and center roll that truly fit into this category.

Yes the bags are made of recyclable material however this becomes useless once it is filled with your dogs poop.

They are not plastic and according to earth Rated they have used natural additives to increase the breaking down process, however if you are truly chasing the bio-degradable option you will need to look at one of the plant based poop bags.

So if you are having a Sh^%$y day I hope this blog has helped you out of a messy situation.

  1. Hi Mark. This is really cool! I had no idea that the smell of dog poop can be covered with the lavender scent! It definitely helps when you’re looking frantically for a bin to dispose the poop. As a pet owner, I’m also concerned about disposing plastic everyday thanks to our pooch taking dumps everyday LOL. I wish I knew about biodegradable poop bags sooner as I’ve got no clue if the ones I used were. My doggo sadly passed 4 years ago but I’ll surely be on the lookout for similar poop bags if I have another pooch in the future, thanks to this review! Actually, if your pooch behaves himself, the slight difficulty in opening the bag won’t be much of a problem hahaa but it surely won’t be ideal for a naughty little one. Thank you for this review Mark. Also, do you happen to know if there are fully biodegradable poop bags that also covers the shit smell with scents? I’ll sure be on the lookout for them when I have my next pup! 😉

  3. I like the leash dispenser option. And the fact that they are eco-friendly makes me approve these bags and want to give them a try. I liked the white bags. I have been enjoying long walks in the park with my dogs these days. They have fun and it’s a relaxing experience for me.
