Can My Dog Eat Benebones?

So there has been a lot of talk lately about the great tasting and very popular Benebones and their amazing flavour!

Today I am going to talk about their flagship and best-selling Benebone which is the Wishbone.

These are a chew toy for the very aggressive chewers, and while many of our customers have asked can my dog eat benebones, I want to start this review off by straight away answering that with a big fat NO!

As with any chew toy, here at Our Dogs World 101 we suggest that you always keep an eye on your dogs use and definitely replace this wishbone after reasonable wear.

If this is left unmonitored, pieces may splinter or fall off and this could become a choking hazard if it gets stuck in your dogs throat.

With that being said lets jump straight into our review of the Benebone real bacon, real chicken, and real peanut wishbone dog chew toys.

Is It Safe For Dogs To Eat Benebones?

No, Benebones are not edible. As with any chew toy, we recommend monitoring your dog while they enjoy their Benebone and disposing of it once it has been sufficiently chewed. Benebones are produced in a variety of sizes to accommodate all kinds of dogs, but they are not meant to be ingested. If you have any concerns, please consult with your veterinarian.

While the nylon is non-toxic, and the flavours are the real thing (Real Bacon and Real Chicken) it is not advisable to let your dog eat Benebones. The risk is that the Benebone splinters and your dog could choke or cut their gums on the sharp edges.

So, to answer the question, no Benebones are not safe for dogs to eat.

Are Benebones Safer Than Nylabones?

Benebones are generally more expensive than Nylabones, and this is because Benebones are made with higher quality ingredients. Benebones are also safer for dogs to chew on, as they are less likely to splinter and break off into smaller pieces that could be swallowed.

Benebones are also flavored with real chicken, which makes them more appealing to dogs than the plain Nylabones. Benebones come in a variety of sizes and shapes, so you can find the perfect one for your dog.

Benebones are also backed by a satisfaction guarantee, so you can be sure your dog will love them.

What Is The Benebone Wishbone Chew Toy For Dogs?

What dog doesn’t love to chew on stuff? It could be your favorite shoes, perhaps the legs of your favorite dining room suite, or your favorite leather couch (Yes that was one of my stories).

What if you could find a chew toy that topped all these and your dogs went absolutely crazy for, wouldn’t that be something you would like to know about?

The Benebone Wishbone could be the answer to all your prayers!

So what is so great about this chew toy that takes an aggressive chewer away from all the other things he used to be so hell-bent on chewing and has them only ever wanting to chew on the wishbone?

Feedback from the over 50,000 dogs that have been reviewed it is simply because it is easy to handle, is long-lasting and they reckon the flavours are just like chewing on the real thing!

Think about it for a minute, if you had to have a chew (come on work your imagination for a second) would you rather be chewing on something that taste like rubber all day (Or in my dogs case leather) or something that really taste like bacon?

Brightly colored toys that squeak only last for so long, especially for heavy chewers, and most dogs get bored quickly, especially if they are left alone for a while.

A dogs biggest sense is his smell, closely followed by his taste and what Benebone have managed to do here is cover both those senses in a long-lasting and extremely durable chew.

I can guarantee you once your dog tastes one of these they will be hooked for life, and you can go about leaving your favorite shoes all over the house knowing they won’t be chewed again!

Which Benebone Is Best?

The Benebone Maplestick Durable Dog Chew Toy is the top choice for my dog Saffron. Benebone makes three different kinds of Benebones: the Wishbone, the Maplestick, and the Real Flavor Wishbone. They are all durable dog chew toys made with real flavor that dogs love.

The Benebone Wishbone is made with real chicken flavor and is a favorite among dogs. The Benebone Maplestick is made with real bacon flavor and is also a favorite among dogs. The Benebone Real Flavor Wishbone is made with both chicken and bacon flavors, making it a great choice for dogs who love both flavors.

The Maplestick Benebone Dog Chew – Saffrons Favorite!

I like the Benebone Maplestick because it is durable and my dog loves the taste. I also like that it is made in the USA with high-quality ingredients. Benebone is a company that I trust to make safe and durable dog toys.

If you are looking for a Benebone for your dog, I recommend the Benebone Maplestick. It is a durable, safe, and delicious dog chew toy that your dog will love!

What Is Benebone Made Out Of?

Benebone is a company that makes dog toys. Benebones are made out of nylon, which is a strong and durable material. Benebones are also flavored with chicken, bacon, or peanut butter, which helps to keep dogs interested in playing with them. Benebones are available in three sizes: small, medium, and large. Benebone also offers a variety of other dog toys, including chew toys and plush toys.

In addition, Benebones may contain peanuts, tree nuts, chicken, pork, fish, beef and/or wood ingredients for flavoring purposes. These Benebones have been known to cause allergic reactions in some dogs. If your dog has any allergies, it is important to check with your veterinarian before giving them Benebones.

Benebone products are available for purchase online and at pet stores nationwide.

The Benebone Wishbone Versus The Other Chew Toys

If you do a quick google search on “Best Chew Toys” you will see what I was talking about earlier in that the majority of these are either rubber, which as I said would taste awful, or rope and materials and anyone who has a dog that likes to chew knows that these last about as long as it did for you to get it home.

In our opinion the only chew that comes close to the Benebone would be the Kong, and that’s only good while it has the taste of their favorite treat inside.

Once they have that treat, its back to chewing the shoes, dining room suite and furniture.

For less than a Big Mac meal you can get your dog one of these dawglicious long-lasting Benebones that will last at least two weeks even for the most aggressive of chewers.

Can My Dog Eat Benebones?

While the nylon is non-toxic, and the flavours are the real thing (Real Bacon and Real Chicken) it is not advisable to let your dog eat Benebones.

The risk it can pose is a choking hazard, and while this is extremely minimal we do suggest that when it is looking a little worse for wear that you order another one.

At about $5 per week you are already saving considerably from buying bones through your butcher, and you don’t have to deal with all the mess and smells that real animal bones leave.

Think about the cost of buying a bone a day from the butcher to deal with your dogs desire to chew!

Why Do Dogs Love Benebones?

There are a few different theories out there as to why dogs love Benebones so much. One is that the Benebone provides a satisfying chewing experience for dogs, as it is made of durable material that can withstand a lot of chewing.

Another theory is that the Benebones unique shape makes it easy for dogs to grip and hold onto, which means they can enjoy a good chew session without having to worry about the Benebone slipping out of their mouth.

I think the biggest reason is that they come in real chicken, beef, and peanut butter flavors rather than plain old rubber!

Whatever the reason, one thing is for sure – dogs love Benebones! And we think that’s pretty cool. After all, who doesn’t love seeing their dog happy and content?

Tell Me A Little More About The Benebone Wishbone

These are Benebones words not mine, but I thought they might be useful to know if you are serious about beating your dogs chewing habits and rescuing the remainder of your couch!

  • DURABLE, LONG-LASTING – Super Chewer? Bring it on. Benebones are tougher than real bones and last for weeks.
  • REAL BACON & REAL CHICKEN – They only use 100% REAL BACON 7 REAL CHICKEN for flavour. And they say trust us, dogs can tell the difference.
  • EASY TO PICK UP AND CHEW – The Wishbone is curved for a paw-friendly grip so your pup can quickly grab it and get a good chew going. Makes sense really, dogs don’t have fingers and thumbs!
  • USA MADE – They make and source everything in the USA.
  • HAPPINESS GUARANTEED – Have an issue? Want to chat? They say reach out to us directly and you will get a real person whose sole job is to make you and your puppy happy.

When Should You Throw Out A Benebone?

We recommend discarding after a month, or sooner, to be on the safe  side.

Benebones are not edible, so if your dog has been chewing on it for a while and there is little left, it may be time to get a new one!

Benebones are also available in different sizes, so if your dog is getting close to finishing off a Benebone, you may want to consider upsizing. You can find our size recommendations below.

Lastly, keep an eye on the condition of the Benebone. If it becomes cracked or splintered, throw it away and get a new one to avoid any risks to your dog’s health.

What Benebone Is The Right Benebone For My Dog?

The Benebone products come in a variety of shapes, flavours and sizes to suit everything from a Chihuahua to a Great Dane as you will see in the graph below.

Simply click on the chart to find the perfect chew for your best friend.

Can Puppies Use Benebone?

Designed for puppies with a slightly softer material makeup dedicated to teething pups, Benebone’s Wishbone and Maplestick can help your pup during their teething phase. Benebone’s products are made of nylon and other food-grade materials, making them safe for your puppy to chew on.

While Benebone’s products are safe for dogs, we do not recommend giving them to puppies that are still teething as they could potentially damage their teeth. If you have a puppy that is teething, we recommend using one of our Benebones under close supervision. Benebone’s products are also not meant to be eaten and should be used only as a chew toy. Benebones are a great way to help your puppy during their teething phase, but they should always be used under supervision.

5.0 out of 5 stars A big win for my extremely aggressive chewer!

Flavor Name: REAL PeanutSize: Large Verified Purchase.

As a former vet tech, rescuer and pup momma I’ve come across some chewers that take the cake.

Of course, one of my own is the worse of the worst.

My monster lab/poodle mix can DESTROY just about anything I buy for him.

He snaps the ultra Kong in half without blinking and will crack even the largest Nylabones within a few minutes.

Even toys marketed as indestructible with money back warranties fall to their death in his jaws.

That said …. HE LOVES THIS BONE and hasn’t managed to do much damage to it which makes it one of the best chew toys I’ve ever encountered.

WARNING! PLEASE READ!

These bones caused slab fractures in both of my dog’s teeth I now have a $1300.00 vet bill and two samoyeds in a lot of pain.

I bought these bones as they have a very high rating, I thought I was doing my research well and making the right decision for my dogs.

I do not give them any other type of bones; and 6 months later when I took them to the vet this is what they said:

The bones are too hard and even though they deteriorate as they chew on them the damage is done, both dogs have slab fractures in their molars and need to have them removed.

Mind you my one dog is only 3 and now has no top molars thanks to these bones, I feel like a terrible dog parent and do not want this to happen to anyone else.

While the dogs do like these, the end result was pain and an extremely high vet bill.

PLEASE USE WITH CAUTION, I recommend NOT AT ALL.

Our Benebone Conclusion

While my dogs have never had an issue with these chew bones it is very important to use the sizing chart I have included before purchasing the right size Benebone for your four-legged friend.

Going through both Amazon and Chewy who are the two biggest sellers of this product, I can tell you from over 100,000 reviews, 87% of dog parents gave this chew bone a five star rating, while only 4% gave it a one star rating.

At Our Dogs World 101 we are always looking for the best products available for your dog and the pet parent, and I either use the products that I review or thoroughly research them before writing anything.

If there are any products you would like some unbiased and professional research done on drop them in the comments and I will do my best to get back to you with my honest opinion as soon as possible.

  1. Wow, what a great review. I am a dog lover but have never heard of Benebones. I think it is great that people like you are really trying to make the lives of one of our best mates lives better. I used to have an old English sheepdog called Tim, and he was a chewer. I just wish these products where around then. We currently have a little terrier ( Terror more likely ) and he will chew on anything. I think I will have to invest in one of these. If it tastes like bacon I might get one for me too.

  3. Thank you for a wonderful article – Can My Dog Eat Benebones? Having a dog is a wonderful thing, they can assist in sucuring your property and also be good company. One of the biggest disadvantages in having a dog is the fact that they like chewing on your stuff. Benebones may be a good way to prevent your dog from chewing on your furniture.

  4. I have also heard good comments about Benebones. And their flavor seems to be genuinely good. So, I was a bit concerned about it having some type of chemical in order to give it that flavor our dogs love. But that doesn’t seem to be an issue. We do need to be careful when the toy begins to wear, which is reasonable.

  5. Hello Mark

Thank you for this awesome review. I have never heard of benebones before. My boy is not much of a chewer but I do get him an ostrich bone from time to time if I know I will be away for a long time during the day because he is prone to digging if he is bored at home. He loves to bite on his rope toy and we play tug with that which he enjoys so much.

    • Hi Janine,

I have personally never tried my dogs on Ostrich bones but it is something I will definitely look at.

I just love the Benebones because you don’t get the mess or smell you tend to get from real bones.

  7. Hi, this is a wonderful article. I’m delighted to learn that it’s important to follow up on our dogs’ usage and to replace this wishbone after a decent amount of wear.
I’m also relieved to read that if this is left unattended, bits may shatter or fall off, posing a choking threat if they become lodged in our dog’s neck.

    Thank you very much.

  8. Hi Mark, you really seem to know a lot about man’s four-legged friend. I sometimes watch as dog owners consult Cesar Millan (on TV of course) with various maladies. Is constant chewing one of these unnatural conditions that need treatment or it’s just normal dog behavior? Either way, this Benebone seems like a cool way to keep them busy and not chew the sofa to pieces.

  9. I really appreciate the tone of this review, sounds conversational and engaging.  Personally, I don’t have a dog any longer, but the dog we had before wasn’t a chewer. It has her annoying habits though.  But I believe that this review will be very useful with dog parents having these chewing issues with their dogs.

I know in most cases it could be mild or aggressive. The good news is that for every problem there is a solution. And the Benebones seem to be the solution here.

And I believe that every dog parent or owner should be cautionary about providing or treating the dog chewing habits thoughtlessly with these products, without being mindful of the side effects to the dog’s teeth or overall health.

Thanks for providing all the details needed, at last user’s discretion matters.

  10. Useful review. I love dogs, but I’ve never heard of Benebones. There are people like you who are really trying to improve the lives of one of our best loved ones. I used to approach the neighbor’s uncaine and he was naughty, with this bone maybe I will succeed. These products intrigue me now. Now I don’t have a dog, maybe one in front of the block, he will chew anything. I have to invest in one of these. If it tastes like bacon, then it’s appetizing.
Wishbones is great as a name and even more practical for a dog.

    Vasile,
