 #AskingForAFriend

If you’re trying to set boundaries with your pooch (and trying to get him off your bed!), looking into comfortable dog beds is an excellent idea.

After all, why would your pup like to sleep elsewhere when he’s got the best dog bed there is?

Memory foam dog beds are high-quality, durable, and highly comfortable. They’re a fantastic choice for older dogs and definitely worth looking into. This blog post will make you an expert in memory foam dog beds as we’ll go over everything you need to know.

So, what are we waiting for!? Let’s jump right in!

Memory Foam Dog Beds: Are They Worth the Hype?

It seems like they’re selling everything memory foam these days–from pillows to couch cushions, from human matrices to dog beds.

 But are they worth it?

This section of the article will cover the key benefits of memory foam dog beds for your pooch and help you make an informed choice.

Let’s get started.

Here’s a Quick Introduction to Memory Foam Dog Beds

If you’ve been mattress shopping lately, you would have come across the term “memory foam.”

Memory foam came into existence in the 1960s as a pressure-relieving and shock-absorbing foam used in seats and seatbelts in NASA spaceships. Soon, it started being used to cushion shoes, helmets, wheelchair seating pads, and more.

Since memory foam is now considered the best material, it only seems fair to create memory foam dog beds for the man’s best friend–after all, our pups also deserve the same comfort that we do!

Benefits of Memory Foam Dog Beds for Your Pooch: A Quick Glance

Let’s take a quick look at why memory foam beds are a superb choice for your pup!

1.   Extremely Comfortable

Does your dog suffer from chronic pain?

Memory foam dog beds are a fantastic choice for dogs that have issues such as body aches. They help relieve pressure from the joints, leaving your dog feeling comfortable.

Moving on.

2.   Help Provide Joint Support to Older Dogs

If your dog has arthritis and other bone issues, a memory foam dog bed can help improve his quality of life, along with his quality of sleep, by providing much-needed pain relief.

The bed is not only extremely comfortable but is also better for his joint health. These are a good pick for older dogs.

3.   Back and Spine Alignment

Dogs are experts at hiding their pain and won’t let you know the amount of pain they’re in unless it is too much to bear. This leaves you with the responsibility of having to look for subtle signs of pain and discomfort.

The great thing about memory foam dog beds is that they evenly support every part of your dog’s body and provide lower back support so that your dog’s body can stay in a neutral position while he sleeps.

This helps remove excess strain and pressure from your dog’s back, leaving him feeling lighter.

4.   Hypoallergenic

Another great thing about memory foam dog beds is that they’re hypoallergenic. Memory foam is significantly denser than regular matrices and repels dust mites and allergens.

5.   Highly Durable & Easy to Care for

Memory foam matrices are highly durable and last over seven years. So, you don’t need to worry about how long the memory foam dog bed will last. The better the quality, the higher the durability.

Other than that, these dog beds are easy to care for and can be washed in the machine.

All you need to do is vacuum it and flip it occasionally, and that’s about it!

Things to Consider When Buying a Memory Foam Dog Bed.

In this section, we’ll look at a few things you must consider when looking to buy the best memory foam dog bed for your pooch.

 Here’s the deal.

How Much Is It!?

Of course, the price of the bed is one of the most important considerations when looking for the best memory foam dog bed. Cheaper dog beds are less dense than their expensive counterparts.

However, keep in mind that the most expensive dog bed may not necessarily be the best one on the market.

You should look for a dog bed that’s high in quality and fits your budget.

One Size Fits All? (Psst! No, It Doesn’t!)

The American Kennel Association (AKA) fully recognizes 195 dog breeds along with 75 other dog breeds that are still in the process of recognition.

Now, that’s a lot of dogs.

So, it is not safe to assume that one size may not fit all. When it comes to buying a comfortable dog bed, you need to look at several factors to determine whether or not it’ll be the right choice for your pooch.

The size of the dog bed needs to be the first determinant.

They Come in all Shapes!

A quick Amazon search will make you realize how dog beds come in all shapes and sizes. While this is awesome for dogs, it can make the decision-making process a bit more difficult for you–after all, you have so many things to choose from.

Ideally, you should go with the kind of bed that your dog would be most comfortable in.

Here are the types of memory foam dog beds available to buy:

  • Donut style: These dogs’ beds are round in shape and cute to look at. They’re awesome for dogs who like to sleep on their sides and help make your pooch feel safe and comfortable. They have raised walls that help your dog feel more secure as he sleeps.
  • Mats and pads: If your dog is able to sleep anywhere and everywhere, memory foam mats and pads are an awesome choice for your pet. These beds don’t take much space and are excellent for older dogs that have trouble climbing the bed.
  • Pillow style: These beds have an in-built pillow of sorts, with one side raised to mimic a pillow. These are a good choice if your dog likes to sleep on your bed, but you’re trying to keep him off!
  • Outdoor bed: These beds are raised and keep your dog off the floor. They’re a good choice for colder climates.

Moving on.

Frequently Asked Questions: Memory Foam Dog Beds

This section of the article will go over some of the frequently asked questions about the memory foam dog beds to help you choose the best one for your furry friend.

Take a look.

1.  Are memory foam dog beds suitable for dogs with arthritis?

Memory foam dog beds are relatively new on the market, and they are not yet fully understood. While some studies show that memory foam can help alleviate arthritis pain in dogs, there is no conclusive evidence about the matter.

2.  Are these beds washable? Are they recyclable?

Memory foam is a type of polyurethane foam used as a health care product or as upholstery.

It consists of high-density, low-resilience foam with a slow response to pressure, commonly referred to as viscoelasticity. You can’t clean memory foam with water because it will absorb the liquid and can’t be compressed back into its original shape.

3.  Does washing my dog’s bed remove fleas?

No, washing the dog’s bedding does not remove fleas. The only way to get rid of fleas is by treating the infestation.

Pets can carry around five times more bacteria than humans, and this can be very dangerous for us humans if we come in contact with it.

It’s essential to wash your dog’s bedding regularly because it is a pet owner’s responsibility to clean up after their pets.

Washing your dog’s bedding, though, will not remove the fleas because they are hiding in between the fibers, and you will need a professional method of getting rid of them.

4.  Do memory foam dog beds work, or are they a sales gimmick?

Memory foam dog beds are great for dogs that suffer from hip dysplasia or joint pain.

Dogs with hip dysplasia sometimes have to sleep in awkward positions to alleviate their pain, and memory foam beds can be a good option for them.

Memory foam is also perfect for dogs that go through phases of getting dirty and shedding fur because of the ability to wipe the surface clean.

Wrapping Up: Are Memory Foam Dog Beds Worth It?

So, what do you think about memory foam dog beds?

Since dogs spend up to 16 hours a day sleeping, their sleep quality will affect their mood, behavior, and health.

Dogs that sleep in an uncomfortable position are more likely to get joint and back problems. That’s why it’s crucial to find the best bed for your dog!

We hope that this blog post helped you find the best memory foam dog bed for your pup.

  1. My dog would be about 65 years old in the equivalent to human years. And through his lifetime I have bought him 4 beds. I now need a bed that’s comfortable. And foam beds have me covered on that. But I didn’t know they were also durable. Usually, those things that are comfortable are not durable. But if it lasts 7 years, I have no need to buy more beds for Rocky.

  2. Hi Mark! It has been a while since I last came across your article!. This article made me remember wjen My Boyfriend and U moved in together, My dog was used to sleeping with me but My Bf couldn’t take it! So I saw online suggestion to use Memory Foam Bed. My dog loved this bed! She is a senior and cannot get up on the sofa very well anymore. No matter what pet beds I have bought her, in the past, she continued to try and jump on the sofa and would make herself sore. This is the first bed she has used continuously! No more sore joints from falls.

    • Hi Vanabell,

I am not sure if I ever moved in with your boyfriend? Maybe a typo error LOL!

Yes the memory foam dog beds really are the best beds on the market today and especially so for the more senior dogs or the breeds that are susceptible to hip and joint issues.

So glad they are working for your dog.

  3. I really enjoyed reading this blog post.  Honestly, I didn’t know that they made memory foam beds for dogs.  I have a large dog myself, and he is a bed hog, but I really don’t know if he would sleep in his own bed now.  I liked that you had an FAQ section at the bottom, it was helpful also.  I also found it interesting that dogs will sleep 16 hours a day, I wish my would, LOL.

  4. If your dog is happy and comfortable in his own bed that is a definite benefit. After all, when taking up space in your bed this is not only an intrusion of your personal space but not the healthiest option to choose.

Though the memory foam dogs bed may seem a little extreme being able to establish your bed and your dogs is critical.

  5. Wow, that is a very detailed article on memory foam dog beds. I never knew that such dog beds existed since I don’t own a dog, but my son does (has 2 dogs, small and one large size), and I am aware of the space they need. You have covered the needs of what small, medium large size dogs need and even x-large. Different shaped beds for different needs is explained quite well especially when trying to stop a dog from being on your own bed. I find your article very useful if I was in need of researching for such a pet bed.

  6. Oh my goodness!  I never thought of that! I am sure giving a dog a better bed will help them stay off your bed! I have never liked dogs on my sofa or bed and that is why I never keep them. But then my daughter wanted a pup…oh…dear….the pup is now a full grown mixed breed of some kind and walks where I walk, sits where I sit, constantly stares at me like it is waiting for me to say something…or maybe through something… (you can tell I am not much of a dog person can’t you?) This dog has never slept in his bed which I provided him… instead he sleeps everywhere else…Today this dog is getting a better bed and hopefully out from under my feet!  Thanks for the inspiration Mark!

  7. Hello Mark. We use cushions made of memory foam and we like them because they are very comfortable and long-lasting. I`m sure memory foam dog beds are a good choice for our pets, too. Especially when you know it can relieve the pain of older dogs and make them comfortable, as it`s not always easy to understand their needs.

  8. This is the first time that I have seen memory foam beds for dogs. I must admit personally I find memory foam a little hard to sleep on, but many love it. I have a dog that chews up all its bedding, so I would be a little hesitant to spend this much on a memory foam bed for him. He is seven but he chews up about two beds a year. I don’t know if he will ever outgrow this phase, but he seems to prefer sleeping on the bricks next to the bed.

  11. Hi Mark!

I thoroughly enjoyed your article on memory foam dog beds!  As an animal lover, I truly believe that dogs, and cats,  ARE man’s best friends, and we should love them and make them as comfortable and as happy as possible!  Once we take an animal into our lives and homes, it is up to us to look out for them and give them the very best care possible,  Memory foam dog beds seem like an excellent choice, especially as our best friends get older or suffer from aches and pains,

After reading your article, I have decided that my choice would be the Jumbo XL Orthopedic 7-inch Thick High-Grade Memory Foam Dog Bed.  One of the reasons I picked this particular bed is that it has an anti-slip surface.  Our dog, Amber, is getting up in years and suffers with pain in her back legs,  When trying to get up and off of her current dog bed, sometimes her bed will slip on our wood floors, which makes her feel a little unstable.  I think this particular bed is an excellent choice for her and would make her feel much more secure.

Thanks again for another great article – keep them coming!!

The Jumbo XL Orthopedic is a great bed and I can guarantee Amber will love this one.

I have recently purchased one for my older girl Narla, who is my 12 year old Black Labrador and it has helped her to sleep comfortably again.

I hope you and Amber have a great day.

  12. I love this article. As someone who love dogs and had a dog with arthritis, I would definitely consider to buy one of these beds, especially because I have a memory foam mattress for myself.

You’re so right about dogs trying to hide their pain. We didn’t find out about my dog’s condition until we took her to the wet.

Overall, this is a very detailed and informative blogpost, thank you!
